History and legacy
A cornerstone of the Idyllwild community
American Legion Post 800 was founded in Idyllwild in the 1940s and has been a steady source of support and camaraderie for veterans and their families ever since. The post's hall on Marian View Drive began as a Kiwanis Club building. The Legion bought it from Kiwanis in early 1971.
From the start, Post 800 made room for veterans to connect, share their experiences and serve the local area. That meant memorial ceremonies, community outreach and a sense of unity among Idyllwild residents.
As the 21st century began, the post grew to meet the needs of a new generation of service members and their families. It now organizes fundraisers, contributes to youth programs and supports disaster relief in the region, while keeping its traditions.
Today Post 800 remains part of daily life in Idyllwild: honoring local veterans, serving the community and connecting generations.
