The Honor Guard is the ceremonial heart of American Legion Post 800 in Idyllwild, California. A team of dedicated volunteers, they carry the colors with precision and respect, and they make sure those who served are honored the way they deserve.
What the Honor Guard Does
- Presents and retires the colors. At ceremonies and events, the Honor Guard presents and retires the American flag, offering a solemn moment of reflection.
- Honors veterans at funerals. For veterans who have passed, the Honor Guard provides a dignified military farewell, including the presentation of the flag and other time-honored rituals.
- Marches in parades and civic events. From Memorial Day and the Fourth of July to Veterans Day, they are a familiar and welcome presence at Idyllwild's patriotic gatherings.
- Teaches the next generation. Through school programs and public outreach, they share what the flag and the service behind it mean.
Every member gives their time freely, holding themselves to the highest standard of professionalism. Their presence is a reminder of the sacrifices made to protect our freedoms.
