On the morning of December 7, 1941, Japanese forces launched a devastating surprise attack on the naval base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, claiming the lives of more than 2,400 service members and civilians in a matter of hours. The following day, President Franklin D. Roosevelt addressed the nation with words we still remember, calling it “a date which will live in infamy,” as the United States entered World War II united in resolve.

National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day invites all of us to pause and honor the courage of those who fell and the generation that answered the call in the days that followed.
