Join the Red Cross to install free smoke alarms and share fire safety education.

The Red Cross of Riverside County is hosting a “Sound the Alarm” event right here in Idyllwild, and we need your help to make our community safer. Please join us and your fellow community members for this important initiative.

Event Details

  • What: A free smoke alarm installation and home fire education event. Our goal is to equip homes with life-saving alarms and knowledge.
  • When: Saturday, October 4, 2025
  • Where: Throughout the Idyllwild community

How You Can Help

We are asking for your support in two key ways:

  1. Spread the Word: Please help us inform Idyllwild residents about this free program. We can provide printed flyers for you to share at your organization or church. This is an appointment-based event, so it’s crucial that residents sign up.
  2. Volunteer With Us: Join our teams on the day of the event. It’s a fun, easy, and incredibly rewarding way to serve your neighbors. No experience is necessary, and we provide all the training and equipment you’ll need.

Volunteer Roles & Training

We organize volunteers into teams of three, with each member having a specific role.

  • Educator: Discusses home fire safety and helps families create a 2-minute fire escape plan.
  • Installer: Physically installs new smoke alarms in the best locations within the home (must be 18 or older).
  • Documenter: Completes the necessary paperwork to record the installation and services provided.

We will conduct a training session on the morning of the event. If you’d like to learn more beforehand, you can watch our short overview and training videos online. All you need to bring are comfortable walking shoes!
